Maya basics

Today was the first lesson on Maya which is a 3D modeling software that was confusing to begin with but quickly became clear on how it works. My save file ended up being corrupted so I had to redo the blocks again but this was nice practice. Halve of the lesson was mainly on how to move around the grid and manipulate the objects in this case a cube by moving it or rotating it. Essentially everything made in Maya starts of as basic shapes such as squares which is then sculpted into them. With the cube we changed it dimensions to form larger cubes, the larger cubes where separated into segments which could be extruded where a new cube was pulled out . This is how the L shaped block was made. All the edges where smoothed using the Bevel tool and changing the settings. The blocks where colored via the hyper shade section where colors can be made with the Blinn option and applied to the blocks. Finally the block can be snapped into place from the rotation  mode. I am pretty confident on the basics of how to move around the program and manipulate the objects so far. I had to do this exercise twice which has helped me gain a good understanding of the basics
